Sell more by making your WooCommerce store mobile friendly

If you have a WooCommerce store, it’s designed to be mobile friendly out of the box (just one of the many reasons we love it) but there’s still so much more you can do beyond the basics.

Did you know that 60% of time online in the UK is now spent on mobiles? Mobile usage overtook desktop in 2014, but plenty of online shops are still playing catch up. Here’s what you can do to make your WooCommerce site as amazing as possible for mobile visitors…

Test your WooCommerce store on mobile devices

Go through the entire purchase process from product search and research through to purchase. Check that everything is easy on a small device, from viewing product pictures to clicking “Buy”. Tiny frustrations are enough to put purchasers off – it’s been found that 40% will simply leave if a site isn’t optimised.

Here’s some suggestions for tests…

  • Viewing different categories of products
  • Refining products e.g. By colour or feature
  • Searching for a specific product
  • Viewing product information, for example on different tabs
  • Finding delivery and returns information
  • Adding a product to the basket
  • Removing a product from the basket
  • Completing the purchase of a product

Remove non-essentials

Mobile screens are so much smaller that simply resizing your site might mean there’s too much content to wade through before visitors reach what they’re looking for. Take a critical eye to your site and make sure that navigation to products and product categories is simple.

Make payment as straightforward as possible

Once a potential customer has reached the payment stage, you definitely don’t want to lose them due to a difficult checkout. Make it as effortless as possible, reduce the information required to the bare minimum. To make it really speedy, why not consider adding Apple Pay as a payment method
